Our Animal Herd

Many of JEM’s animals have come through various rescue efforts. Whether through adoption, re-homing, or the purchase of at risk animals, JEM provides a place where animals can feel safe and rebuild trust with humans through respectful interactions.

Beau, Callie and Luna

Beau is our gentle giant. Half draft, half quarter horse, he’s a big boy. But he’s so kind and gentle and aware. He’s also a little scared. We aren’t quite sure what happened to this big boy in his past, but you can see trepidation in his eyes. He’s easy to spook and doesn’t like any fast movements. Whoever works with Beau will surely learn how to slow down and pay attention.

Callie was adopted in March of 2019, as part of the BLM-4H Wild Horse Project. Callie was an 18 month old mustang when adopted. We don’t know much about that first year in the wild, but since coming to JEM, Callie has proven to be a curious and fearless mare who loves human interaction.

Luna is a 20 year old quarter horse who was adopted from By His Grace Equine Rescue, located in Kuna, ID  in May of 2018. Luna came to us after being abandoned by her previous owners. She eventually landed at the Rescue where she was cared for and loved by founder, Vicki Imhoff. When Luna first arrived at our farm, she was timid and scared. She was not a horse that would easily offer herself to you. Now she is an engaging and loving horse who is patient and willing to connect and participate with the humans around her.

Chip

Chip came to us after retiring from the roping world. Chip has settled into retirement nicely and is now the perfect trail pony. But Chip can be a little temperamental at times which makes him a good teacher of awareness, boundaries and reading body language!

Lovey Dovey

Lovey Dovey was purchased as a yearling back in 2016. She is an important member of the herd as she was our first and provides therapeutic benefit to our younger clients. In her four years with us, Lovey has offered hope, healing and happiness to children of abuse, children who are terminally ill, children living in foster care and group homes, the elderly and children with ASD.

Caramel and the Twins

Caramel is a 3 year old Pygmy goat who we purchased because we loved her and knew she would be a good addition to our family. Caramel had her first set of twins this past Spring. Carter and Amelie are now 9 months old and as big as their mama. Having goat babies was a great experience and gave us the opportunity to learn first hand about kidding and raising goats. We can’t wait to have more!

Chevy

Chevy is an 8 year old Pygmy goat. He was born in the back of a Chevy truck and was bottle fed after his mama died while giving birth. As a result, Chevy is very people friendly! His long time companion goat was Mini, our 6 year old Pygmy girl. Chevy and Mini came to us together in 2017 in order to keep Lovey company and to serve as therapy animals in our programs.
